Details: A 3–6 hour interactive and experience-based teaching session, with individual and group activity towards the end.
Subject — Conceptual Visualization
Often, it's puzzling for most design students about deriving a concept! Probably that's the last thing most of us have compiled in our design studios. However, it has to be the other way round. Every creation should have a story to tell.
In my little practice, concept has been a very strong point, because it has also been my passion. Through this workshop, I'm going to take you through my projects and share my story behind it.
We are in the times where ideas are our currency. If we are unique in our thoughts and relevant in our actions, we can definitely create an impact! With the growing design awareness, "out of the box" has become everyone's demand, whether it is the client or the designer. However, out of the box, according to me, is the one that stays within the context and yet brings out a sense of its own individuality by contributing to the larger spectrum such that it stays connected to its environment, social grounds and innovation.
I believe in Form follows Fiction! A tree could be blue in colour!
What I want to arrive at is that conceptual visualization is a healing program — a program that teaches not to program oneself, not to structure oneself, but to open up to the possibilities of the impossibilities. Only then can one create the imaginary. Only then can one dare to imagine beyond normalization. And only then can one have a vision!
All of this comes from a process — what I call a concept. This program is thus to share misconceptions and fears of deriving a concept. It is a very open and conversational platform wherein I would want the students to perform rather than just observe.
By the end of the session, the target is to open up young minds to looking at a design challenge from varied perspectives, and hence derive a holistic approach to a given brief.
